Drinking & Driving Statistics prompt Narconon Trois-Rivieres to ask: Should Drunk Drivers all go to Alcohol Rehab?

without comments

Trois-Rivieres, QC  February 02, 2011

Narconon Trois-Rivieres is launching a Drinking and Driving PSA campaign for Canada in order to counter raising statistics of fatal accidents due to impaired driving. Anyone who gets behind the wheel of a car and operates it while intoxicated is risking not only their own life, but many others as well. This is true even if it happens for the first time. All it takes is one time with a drunk driver for someone to get killed. Anyone who is willing to take that chance obviously needs counseling. If nothing else, they need a reality check. Drunk driving takes lives of innocent people, even children. There is no excuse for it. “That’s why we’ve launched our second Drinking and Driving video PSA this week” reports JF Dubreuil of  Narconon Trois-Rivieres.

Drinking and Driving Drinking & Driving Statistics prompt Narconon Trois Rivieres to ask: Should Drunk Drivers all go to Alcohol Rehab?

Stop Drinking and Driving

Drunk drivers are taking many dangerous chances every time they get behind the wheel of the car. They disregard not only their own safety, but that of others. This type of thinking is extremely dangerous. They cognitively know the dangers of drunk driving, and yet deny that alcohol affects their own driving. This should be sending up a red flag across the world. Too many people have died because someone drove after consuming alcohol. Letting it happen only once is too many.

Alcohol impairs reaction time and judgment. That is a known fact. Often, because of the effects of the alcohol, the drunken driver survives the accidents, but others aren’t so lucky. It takes only a split second swerving into the wrong lane for disaster to occur. By then, it’s too late. Then, the drunk driver must take responsibility for his or her actions. Too often, they turn, once again to alcohol. There is no such thing as an accidental drunk driving accident.

Alcohol rehab helps people to take responsibility for their actions.  Drinking and driving is simply not acceptable and should be reason for treatment of some kind. It is so prevalent that many people do not even blink when someone confesses they were drunk the night before and it is assumed they drove home. That shows how society has silently accepted drunk driving. If someone were drunk and waving around a machine gun, plenty of people would be taking notice. A car is a weapon when in the control of a drunk driver. It’s as simple as that.

Every time someone drives drunk, it gets easier and easier for them to do it. It is only a matter of time before something terrible happens. Obtaining alcohol rehabilitation can very well prevent some innocent person from being injured, or even killed. That alone makes it worthwhile.

Narconon Trois-Rivieres is launching this campaign after a successful Drinking and Driving video PSA run during the Holiday Season: The  Narconon Trois-Rivières – Don’t Drink and Drive PSA

Narconon hopes to help prevent over 1,000 deaths

without comments

Narconon, Trois-Rivieres, CA

A low estimate of the deaths in Canada due to drinking and driving is 1,162 for the year 2008. On top of that, about 149,028 people were injured because of drunk driving.  An estimate of the claims for auto accidents in that same year was 1,751,100. All of the death and destruction caused as a result of alcohol and automobile combinations. “That does not even include the deaths due to domestic abuse, and other violent crimes resulting from alcohol consumption” reports JF Dubreuil of Narconon Trois-Rivieres.

Automobiles and alcohol simply do not mesh. The combination is deadly. Narconon wants to help put a serious dent in the amount of deaths and injuries that result from drinking and driving. Many people who drink and drive are repeat offenders. They don’t learn their lesson and simply continue to put their own lives and the lives of others in danger by getting behind the wheel of a car. Too often, it is the innocent passenger, other driver or pedestrian who suffers the most.

The dangers are obvious. They are publicly available to anyone who will pay attention. People simply must learn to drink responsibly. Pub owners and patrons also often help by intervening when they see someone about to drive that has been drinking. Taking away car keys is better than attending funerals. http://www.alcoholaddict.info/drinking-and-driving.html

Drinking and driving is not new, nor are deaths and injuries resulting from it. However, the numbers do continue to rise every year. Poor judgment is a part of drinking alcohol which leads people to believe they are sober enough to drive. M. Dubreuil also commented “Narconon helps those who drink to take responsibility for their actions and acknowledge the danger they have posed. They help make the streets of Canada safer for all drivers, passengers and pedestrians.”

Alcohol kills in many ways, but drinking and driving affects far too many innocents. Babies are killed as a result, as are the elderly. No one is safe when there is a drunk driver on the roads. Narconon hopes to help reduce the number of funerals that are caused by drinking and driving.

Narconon Trois-Rivieres is Proposing Solutions to Get an Alcoholic to Stop Drinking

without comments

Alcoholism is not something people do just to pass the time. It is something that can begin innocently enough, but then becomes ingrained into the very being of the individual. Instead of the person controlling the alcohol, the alcohol begins controlling the alcoholic. Telling them to “stop drinking” simply is not going to work. You may as well be telling them to stop breathing. Oh, it is possible for them to stop drinking, but it takes a well established and proven program to help them succeed – Narconon Trois-Rivieres says it provides such a program.

In order for someone to stop drinking, they must not only stop the intake of alcohol, but learn what triggers their desire. They must also own up to what their alcoholism has done in their lives, and the lives of loved ones. They must also rid their body completely of alcohol. Finally, they must learn new and better ways to deal with the stressors in their lives. This cannot be accomplished by simply telling them to stop drinking.

Telling someone to stop drinking, along with a firm zero tolerance rules can, however, help lead the alcoholic to treatment. Along with confronting them with their alcoholism, there must be new rules set forth which make it clear that drinking will not be allowed in your home, or in your life. That gives an answer to “or what?” when you tell them to stop drinking. The reasons for them to stop must be clear. If there are no consequences, other than those they are able to deny, there isn’t much motivation to stop drinking.

Simply by telling someone to stop drinking, you are only beating your head against a wall. It may make you feel better saying it, but it won’t be effective unless you back up the words with action. Intervention is not always easy, and it is best to get the advice of trained addiction counselors like the ones found at Narconon Trois-Rivieres, but it can prove successful. Back up the words with zero tolerance and force the alcoholic to see that they are not fooling anyone with their alcoholism or their denial.

Many times, the alcoholic wants to stop drinking, but they don’t know how, or they don’t believe they can. This is part of the alcoholism. They can stop drinking, and often it is loved ones that help them to realize that. Actions speak louder than words, as the saying goes, so backing up “stop drinking” with some serious action may make all the difference in the world.
